Home-School Partnership to Enhance Multilingual Literacy and Mathematics Skills

Abstract
Research shows that pupils from low-income (B40) backgrounds struggle to master literacy and mathematics (ML&M) skills. However, because parental engagement is strongly correlated with ML&M development, Home-School Partnerships (HSP) are effective frameworks for ML&M learning. This qualitative study developed an HSP model for the Malaysian suburban landscape. Semi-structured interviews with 24 principals, 28 teachers, and 24 B40 parents from four primary schools revealed drivers of a sustainable school-home community ecosystem. Aligned with SDGs 4 and 10, the model provides a framework for the school community to restore and accelerate primary pupils’ ML&M skills.
